«Nuestro juramento» (English: «Our oath») is a bolero by Puerto Rican songwriter Benito de Jesús and popularized throughout Latin America by Ecuadorian singer Julio Jaramillo.[2] Jaramillo’s original recording of the song was made in 1956, featuring Rosalino Quintero on requinto guitar, and released in 1957 by Ónix.[1] The lyrics of the song talk about two lovers who have made an oath to love each other until death and beyond; if the man dies first, the woman promises to spill all her tears over his corpse and to make everyone know about her love, and if she dies first, the man promises to write the story of their love with blood from his heart.[3]
Nuestro juramento is the most popular song in the history of Ecuador, especially in Guayaquil, where Julio Jaramillo was from. However, most Ecuadorians are unaware that it was written by someone outside their country.
Benito de Jesús said to be living off the royalties of «Nuestro juramento». Every 6 months he received royalties from different countries.[2]

Many singers have sung versions of «Nuestro juramento», including Ecuadorian singer Olimpo Cárdenas, Colombian singers Charlie Zaá and Alci Acosta, Peruvian singer Tania Libertad, Puerto Rican singer Daniel Santos, Puerto Rican singer José Feliciano, and the Mexican groups Los Baby’s and Café Tacvba. The latter was in the soundtrack of the movie Crónicas, directed by Sebastián Cordero.[2]

Nuestro juramento es una canción criolla escrita por el compositor puertorriqueño Benito de Jesús y popularizada en ritmo de bolero por el cantautor ecuatoriano Julio Jaramillo,[1] quien grabó el tema en 1956 y lo lanzó en 1957 con la disquera Ónix.[2][3][4] La canción rompió récords de venta y se convirtió en un éxito tan grande, que Jaramillo llenó alrededor de 200 funciones consecutivas en Guayaquil junto al guitarrista Rosalino Quintero, quien introdujo junto a Jaramillo los cambios a la composición para adaptarla a bolero.[2] Años más tarde, Jaramillo aseveró estar seguro de que sería la canción por la que más sería recordado.[1]
El tema ganó fama a nivel continental y ayudó a posicionar la carrera de Jaramillo en el extranjero. En la actualidad es considerado un ícono de la música ecuatoriana y en particular de la cultura guayaquileña.[5][6][7]
El tema fue interpretado además por el dúo Irizarry de Córdova y la orquesta de Lawrence Welk. Posteriormente ha sido versionado por figuras como Charlie Zaa y el grupo Café Tacvba.[8]
Hacia 1994 Benito de Jesús seguía manteniéndose económicamente gracias a las regalías de la canción y aseguró sentirse agradecido con Jaramillo por el éxito del tema.[5][2]

En 1995, el dramaturgo ecuatoriano Lucho Mueckay, director del grupo teatral Sarao, eligió el verso No puedo verte triste porque me matas, perteneciente a Nuestro juramento, para nombrar a una de sus obras teatrales.[5] La escritora y política Aminta Buenaño, por su lado, tituló a una de sus novelas Si tú mueres primero (2011), frase que también es tomada de la canción.[9]
